Lead Application Chemist, LECO

Join this webinar to learn how moisture and loss on ignition (LOI) measurements are used to assess the quality and handling of cement, fly ash, gypsum, and lime. Presenters will explain why controlling moisture, carbonation, and thermal decomposition is essential for maintaining material performance and meeting industry specifications.

The session will introduce thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) as an automated approach for measuring mass changes over controlled temperature programs and atmospheres. Attendees will gain insight into TGA method development, sample preparation, and instrument operation, with reference to ASTM methods for combustion residues, flue gas desulfurization solids, hydrated lime, and hydraulic cement.

Through application examples and reference material data, the webinar will demonstrate how TGA supports repeatable, standards-based moisture and LOI determination. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how these measurements can be used to monitor raw materials, detect storage or handling issues, and ensure consistent cement and construction material quality.
