Testimonials
“Metabolomics is a key scientific discipline to study metabolism and its interaction with the environment in any biological system. GC(xGC)-MS is a core analytical platform applied in metabolomics and which is highly complementary to other analytical platforms including LC-MS and NMR spectroscopy. GC(xGC)-MS provides the opportunity to study central metabolism at high resolution which is not feasible with other analytical platforms. In our laboratory we have applied LECO GC(xGC)-MS platforms for more than 20 years to study a wide range of mammalian, plant and microbial sample types.
We choose LECO platforms because they are robust, operate 24/7 with minimal breakdowns, have an ion source which does not require cleaning and therefore no sensitivity loss over time and provide easy-to-use software packages for raw data processing and data analysis. We hope to use LECO platforms for the next twenty years.”

“Compared to GC equipped with a single column, the Pegasus 4D enabled me to separate unbelievable number of analytes! Tens of thousands of separated peaks in one run was not an exception. But where the separation was not perfect, ChromaTOF software and its deconvolution algorithm did the job. Such excellent ‘separating power’ helped me discover new types of plant PCB metabolites.
Don’t forget! it is not just a horse. It is a Pegasus! A winged horse! Just let it fly! It shows you separations where you don’t even expect it!

“As the leader of the Integrated Omics Analysis Division at the Tsukuba-Plant Science Center (T-PIRC) since 2014, my work in plant metabolomics research continues a journey that began in 2002. During my time as a postdoc at UPSC, under Prof. Thomas Moritz, and continuing into my current role, our consistent reliance on LECO GC-TOFMS has been instrumental in generating the robust data that led to publications in top-tier journals like Cell and Nature Plants.
What truly sets LECO GC-TOFMS apart, and why it’s been a cornerstone of my successful career as a metabolomics researcher, is its remarkable toughness. It’s truly incredible that our group continues to effectively operate a 2005-model LECO GC-TOFMS. This isn’t just about durability; it’s about the instrument’s fundamental design allowing it to consistently produce scientifically reliable data, year after year, with appropriate maintenance. This sustained performance is precisely what has enabled us to generate high-impact scientific papers. For any scientific field embarking on metabolomics, I strongly recommend this system. Metabolites are the fundamental ‘compounds’ that sustain life and build the structures of all organisms, and they demand a tool as dependable and powerful as the LECO GC-TOFMS.”

“LECO instruments enable simultaneous untargeted and quantitative analyses, boosting laboratory efficiency. With ChromaTOF software, you can adjust peak-detection settings to ensure transparent, traceable results—essential for reliable metabolomics data. For GC×GC workflows, ChromaTOF Tile processes large untargeted datasets with robust feature detection and peak annotation. The results can then be integrated into custom bioinformatics tools for deeper insights.
In plant research, this setup can profile primary metabolites, volatile compounds, and other classes of metabolites, providing an in-depth understanding of bioactive metabolite biosynthesis. Clinically, it supports biomarker discovery in diseases such as chronic kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, and skin disorders, enabling early detection and personalized treatment monitoring.

“We have used
LECO’s GC-TOF MS technology for the past 25 years, first with four instruments of the floor-standing Pegasus series, and now with BT and BTX benchtop instruments. My laboratory relies on the TOF’s impeccable robustness, speed, sensitivity and superb software every day. With more than 200,000 samples analyzed for primary metabolism with derivatization, we also analyze volatile compounds from honeybees to plant samples. Deconvolution software makes nontargeted analysis easy, with confident compound identifications by mass spectral searches and retention index matching. We are looking forward to the next 25 years of expert technology!
